NAESP is proud to announce the winners of the 2017 American Student Council Excellence Award. (Click here to see the full list). The American Student Council Association (ASCA), founded in 1987, provides best practices, forms, updates, and recognition for elementary school student councils.

Student councils offer a unique opportunity to encourage students to participate more actively in their school and community. ASCA provides training and development for student leaders and advisors, encourages networking with student leaders from across the country, and recognizes the efforts of student councils making a difference in their communities. Student councils have been recognized for organizing activities such as:

  • Community food and clothing banks;
  • Adopt-a-Grandparent programs;
  • School beautification projects;
  • Tutoring programs;
  • Letter-writing campaigns to soldiers overseas; and
  • Fundraising events for disaster victims.
